Overview
Providing a mentorship opportunity for graduate students and a unique experience for undergraduates! Initiated and organized by the graduate students to help foster a relationship between the two groups of students. Program Details
COMPASS is a semester-long mentoring program. You can participate as many semesters as you want during your time here at UW-Madison. Matches will be made through the information collected from the applications, but ideal matches may be limited due to the availability of mentors or mentees to complete the requirements. COMPASS Coordinators will do the best of their ability to match mentors and mentees each semester.
Separate orientation sessions will be held for the mentors and mentees. The goal of the orientation sessions is to have everyone understand how the program will work and the policies. In addition, the mentor’s orientation session will provide training on how to be an effective mentor.
Mentors:
To be eligible to participate, you must be either a graduate student/postdoc/visiting scholar within or affiliated with the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences. To be matched with a mentee, you must attend the orientation session at the beginning of the semester.
Mentees:
To be eligible to participate, you must be either an undergraduate student within or affiliated with the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences. You must be in good standing with UW-Madison. To be matched with a mentor, you must attend the orientation session at the beginning of the semester.
Time Commitment
Mentors:
You must meet with your mentee(s) once a month for at least one hour, with a minimum of three meetings per semester. This is encouraged but not required if you choose to meet more often with your mentee(s). In addition, there will be a monthly meeting for mentors hosted by the Coordinators with the purpose of serving as a check-in about how the mentorship is going as well as professional development on improving mentor skills.
Total monthly time commitment: 2-3hrs
Mentees:
You are required to meet with your mentor monthly for at least one hour with a minimum of three meetings per semester. This is encouraged but not required if you choose to meet more often with your mentor.
